Helena Kreiensiek works as a freelance foreign correspondent based in Dakar, Senegal. Since 2024, she has been reporting primarily on West Africa from there. Previously, she worked as a freelance journalist in Uganda and as a media trainer in Burundi.She first studied International Politics and History in Bremen and then completed a Master’s degree in International Crimes, Criminology and Conflict in Amsterdam. She took her first steps in journalism as a trainee at the local newspaper Jeversches Wochenblatt.
Her focus is on political and social reporting for print and radio, particularly on topics such as human rights, migration, climate, and social conflicts. Her work has appeared in, among others, taz, DATUM, Focus Online, Zeit Online, SRF, and Radio Bremen/WDR.
